2 killed, 1 injured in Israeli strike on S. Lebanon

BEIRUT, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and one injured on Tuesday morning in an Israeli drone strike on Lebanon's southern border region, according to health and security sources.

The raid on the town of Shebaa "resulted in the martyrdom of two individuals and the injury of one person," said a statement issued by the Public Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Public Health.

Lebanese military intelligence and Civil Defense sources told Xinhua that the victims "were livestock herders from the same family, and one of them was a member of the Lebanese army."

An official from the Lebanese Red Cross said the casualties had been transferred to Marjayoun Governmental Hospital.

The latest strike comes despite a ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel, brokered by the United States and France, which has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024. The deal brought an end to over a year of cross-border hostilities triggered by the war in Gaza.

Nevertheless, Israel continues to carry out occasional strikes in Lebanon, which it claims are intended to eliminate "Hezbollah threats."
