BEIJING, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

KUWAIT CITY -- Kuwait on Wednesday reported 710 new cases of COVID-19 and four more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 29,359 and the death toll to 230, the health ministry said in a statement.

Currently, 13,379 patients are receiving treatment, including 191 in ICU, according to the statement.

FREETOWN -- Three Sierra Leonean children, including a nine-month-old infant, who were infected with COVID-19 have recovered with the help of Chinese and Sierra Leonean doctors, the China-Sierra Leone Friendship Hospital said here Wednesday.

The China-Sierra Leone Friendship Hospital was designated as one of the specialized hospitals to receive COVID-19 patients in the West Africa country's fight against the virus.

The three orphans, who suffered from different levels of congenital malformation and malnutrition, developed severe COVID-19 symptoms before they were transferred to the hospital, said Zhao Mengwen, a Chinese doctor of the Chinese medical team based in the hospital.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia has identified 562,686 poor and needy families with nearly 2.3 million people for cash subsidies during the COVID-19 pandemic, a senior official at the Ministry of Planning said on Wednesday.

"They are poor. Moreover, they have lost their income and are facing a shortage of food due to the COVID-19," Theng Panha Thon, director general of the General Directorate of Planning, told Xinhua.

RAMALLAH -- Palestine on Wednesday declared an extension of the state of emergency by 30 days, official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree, allowing the renewal of the emergency state for another month starting June 4.

The decree is part of Palestine's efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, WAFA said.

TOKYO -- Japan has reported 31 new confirmed COVID-19 cases with the total reaching 17,031, according to the latest figures from the health ministry and local authorities on Wednesday.

The number excludes the 712 cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship that was quarantined in Yokohama near Tokyo.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon's number of COVID-19 infections increased on Wednesday by 14 cases to 1,256, while the death toll remained at 27, the National News Agency reported.

Lebanon has reduced general mobilization measures for businesses to reopen given the dire economic circumstances and the companies' need to generate revenues and cover their expenses.

Fadi al-Hassan, president of Beirut airport, said the airport will not function normally until the end of June.

TEHRAN -- Iran reported on Wednesday 3,134 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 160,696, the state TV reported.

Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the Iranian health ministry, said during his daily briefing that 70 people died of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 8,012.

Out of the new cases, 493 were hospitalized, he added.
