BEIRUT -- Lebanon's Prime Minister Hassan Diab on Monday announced the resignation of his government, after deadly explosions in capital Beirut that have triggered anti-government protests.

Diab said the government has decided to resign to stand by Lebanese who are demanding for a real change.

Beirut was rocked last week by two huge explosions that have claimed at least 158 lives and injured 6,000 others. Thousands took to streets in downtown Beirut to demand the overhaul of the political system. (Lebanon-Government-Resign)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday afternoon was temporarily escorted by a Secret Service agent from an ongoing coronavirus briefing after a shooting was reported outside the White House.

"There was an actual shooting, and somebody has been taken to the hospital. I don't know the condition of the person," the president said after he returned to the White House briefing room minutes later.

WASHINGTON -- A woman was dead, six people were seriously injured and three homes reduced to rubble in a major gas explosion on Monday morning in Baltimore, a major city in eastern U.S. state of Maryland, the authorities said.

Emergency personnel were searching for people who might have been trapped in the debris of the three rowhouses in a residential neighborhood in the northeast part of the city, local media reported. The explosion erupted shortly before 10 a.m. local time. (US-Baltimore-Explosion)

ABUJA -- Thirteen people were killed early Monday in a shooting spree by some unknown gunmen in Nigeria's north-central state of Benue, the police said.

State police spokeswoman Catherine Anene, who confirmed the attack, said the gunmen numbering about 20 invaded a community in the Edikwu district of Apa local government area and shot indiscriminately at the locals.

"A team of police officers was deployed to the scene where 13 corpses were recovered," Anene said in a statement. (Nigeria-Gunman-Attack)
