BEIRUT, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon registered on Tuesday 1,502 new cases, the highest number of daily cases since April, according to the Health Ministry.

The total number of infections now stands at 557,145 while the death toll went up by one case to 7,895.

The new cases were detected by undertaking 24,564 tests, resulting in an average two-week positivity rate of 5 percent.

The Health Ministry noted that the last time the country registered a higher daily number was on April 21 with 2,082 cases.

The ministry noted that 24.7 percent of the eligible people have received their first doses of the vaccine while 17.3 percent of the population is now fully vaccinated since the rollout began in February.

The ministry added that only 31.1 percent of the eligible population registered to receive the vaccine prompting health experts to urge people to register for vaccination in light of the rapid spread of the Delta variant.
