BEIRUT, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- The revenues of Lebanon's Beirut port saw a rapid recovery in late 2022, more than two years after the blasts that decimated the port and the city, local media reported on Tuesday.
The average monthly revenues of the port stood at 10 million U.S. dollars in the last four months of 2022, which was 22 times larger than those in January 2022, which reached 437,000 dollars, Lebanon's National News Agency reported, citing the Lebanese Transport Ministry.
The ministry said it decided to restart the work at the Beirut port to restore its functionality so that it could attract foreign investment, adding that the port can use the revenues it generates to finance its reconstruction.
The Beirut port was hit by two big explosions on Aug. 4, 2020, which killed over 200 people and destroyed a big part of the Lebanese capital.
