Hezbollah fighter killed in Israeli drone attack in Lebanon

JERUSALEM, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military said on Thursday that it had killed a militant from Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force in a drone attack in southern Lebanon.

"The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) struck and eliminated a Hezbollah Radwan Force terrorist in the area of Rab El Thalathine in southern Lebanon," a military spokesperson said in a statement.

Separately, Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes in the area of Bekaa in eastern Lebanon, targeting a Hezbollah military site, the IDF said in a statement.

The site contained rocket launchers and weapons, and Hezbollah militant activity was identified, according to the military. Additionally, military infrastructure sites and rocket launchers belonging to Hezbollah were struck in southern Lebanon, it said.

Lebanon's state-owned National News Agency reported that an Israeli reconnaissance drone was observed conducting intensive overflights early on Thursday above the Rashaya area and the western slopes of Mount Hermon, but gave no further details.

The attack was the latest in almost daily strikes that Israel has continued to carry out despite a ceasefire reached with Hezbollah in November 2024 that ended 14 months of cross-border fighting.
