Lebanon, FAO launch project to boost dairy sector, create jobs

BEIRUT, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's Agriculture Ministry and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Thursday launched a 4.5-million-U.S.-dollar project to support the country's struggling dairy sector and boost employment for vulnerable communities, including Syrian refugees.

The project aims to assist roughly 3,175 small-scale dairy farmers and feed producers across Lebanon. It will offer matching grants, technical support, and energy-efficient infrastructure to improve productivity, lower costs, and enhance working conditions. Women are expected to make up at least 25 percent of the beneficiaries.

Agriculture remains a critical source of income in Lebanon's rural areas, but has come under strain due to the country's prolonged economic crisis and the large refugee population.
