Israel-Lebanon ceasefire takes effect: As it happened

The agreement includes Israels right to take all necessary measures in self-defense if attacked

The 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon entered into force on Friday, with US President Donald Trump insisting that Hezbollah is part of the agreement, although the armed group had boycotted peace talks with Israel as futile.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) renewed their operation in Lebanon in early March after Hezbollah fired rockets and mortars at Israel in support of Iran. At least 2,196 people have been killed in Lebanon, and 1.2 million have been displaced, as Israel carried out airstrikes on Beirut and other cities and issued sweeping evacuation orders in an effort to expand its "security zone" in southern Lebanon.

Iran, which reached a two-week ceasefire with the US and Israel on April 8, has listed an end to the Israeli campaign in Lebanon as one of the key conditions for a permanent peace deal.
